Tayyba Anwar, MD, is a neonatal neurologist and epilepsy specialist, and an associate professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She completed her undergraduate studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in brain and cognitive sciences. Dr. Anwar earned her medical degree from New York Medical College and completed her pediatrics residency, child neurology residency and epilepsy fellowship at Children’s National. She is board-certified in neurology and epilepsy.

Dr. Anwar joined the faculty at Children’s National in 2019, where she serves as program director for the Epilepsy Fellowship and co-director of the Hemimegalencephaly Program. Her research focuses on post-neonatal epilepsy following early brain injury, outcomes after transarterial embolization in infants with hemimegalencephaly, and the use of EEG signal analysis to predict neurodevelopmental outcomes in neonates.

She has authored many peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters and invited publications, and is a nationally and internationally invited speaker on neonatal EEG, neonatal seizures and hemimegalencephaly.

Dr. Anwar is a member of the American Epilepsy Society and the Newborn Brain Society, and a fellow of the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society. She is also a collaborator in the Neonatal Seizure Registry, a multicenter consortium dedicated to advancing the understanding and management of neonatal seizures.
