About the Provider

Patrick Burke, MD, is an ophthalmologist at Children’s National Hospital and an assistant professor of ophthalmology and pediatrics at the George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Originally from Connecticut, he spent 12 years in Boston, where he completed an undergraduate degree in biology at Boston College, and he earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine where he graduated with research honors. During his time in Boston, he also dedicated three years to HIV research at the Ragon Institute MGH, MIT, and Harvard.

After completing his internship at the Cambridge Health Alliance, Dr. Burke then moved to Washington, D.C., where he completed his ophthalmology residency at Georgetown University and Washington Hospital Center, and he served as chief resident. This was followed by a pediatric ophthalmology fellowship at Children's National Hospital. It was in Washington, D.C., that he met his to-be wife, Laura, who is also a pediatric ophthalmologist and may be better known as Dr. Kueny! Prior to returning to Children’s National Hospital, Dr. Burke practiced in Phoenix, AZ, and Newport News, VA, where he served his communities from 2020-2025.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Burke completed a master's degree in computer science at Arizona State University, focusing on machine learning. His goal is to integrate his passion for technology with his dedication to medicine to improve the delivery of healthcare, and he is actively working on AI applications in the healthcare space. He is also active in Dr. Kueny’s non-profit organization Little Eyes International, which provides ophthalmological services internationally to an underserved area in Sonora, Mexico.
