About the Provider

Michael Keller, MD, is a pediatric immunologist, the director of the Translational Research Laboratory in the Cellular Therapy Program and associate professor of Pediatrics at Children’s National Hospital and George Washington University. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of primary and secondary immunodeficiency disorders.

Dr. Keller’s research interests are in the application of cellular therapies to treat and prevent viral illnesses in immunocompromised patients, including children with inborn errors of immunity and patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation. He has led 10 investigator-initiated trials of virus-specific T cell therapy on which over 180 patients have been treated over the past decade, including national consortium studies. He is also co-lead of the joint NIAID-Children’s National clinical immunology research program (with Dr. Luigi Notarangelo) and has contributed to the descriptions of many new inborn errors of immunity.  

Dr. Keller has served on multiple national committees, including as chair of the Primary Immunodeficiency Committee for the American Academy of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology (2018-2022) and vice-chair of the Cellular Therapy Committee for the Pediatric Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Consortium (2022-present). He also serves as an author and section editor for multiple topics on inborn errors of immunity on uptodate.com.

Dr. Keller lives in Maryland with his wife and two sons, and enjoys travel, hiking and martial arts.
