About the Provider
Marlet Bazemore, MD, MPH, is the vice chief of the Division of Ophthalmology and an associate professor of ophthalmology and pediatrics at the George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She was a recipient of the Edward Crosland Stuart Scholarship to Davidson College, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1992 and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society. Her internship and residency in ophthalmology were completed at the University of Cincinnati. She completed her fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at the Wilmer Institute in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins. She earned her Master of Public Health at the Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. Bazemore joined the staff of Children’s National in 2005, after serving as faculty for several years at Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center and the University of Cincinnati Department of Ophthalmology. She has served as director of the Pediatric Ophthalmology Fellowship Program at Children’s National since 2017, served as associate chief of clinical operations from 2023-2024, and undertook the role of vice chief of the department in 2024.
Dr. Bazemore has served as an officer for the Washington Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the Medical Committee of the Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan D.C. She is active in research and several professional organizations. She led annual surgical brigades to the Dominican Republic from 2014-2024. She served as president of Casa de Luz, the organization providing this care, from 2017-2025. Dr. Bazemore is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and has been an active fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology since 2003.
