About the Provider

Ellen Bartolini, PsyD, PMH-C, is a licensed clinical psychologist within the Prenatal Pediatrics Institute at Children’s National Hospital. She also serves as an assistant professor of Pediatrics and Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Dr. Bartolini specializes in treating patients and families coping with challenging pregnancies and complex fetal diagnoses. In addition to her work within the Prenatal Pediatrics Institute and the Prenatal Cardiology Program, Dr. Bartolini works closely with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit to support parents and caregivers of seriously ill infants and young children. She has extensive experience in treating medical trauma, grief and loss, and is certified as a perinatal mental health specialist.

Dr. Bartolini’s research interests broadly center upon the risk and protective factors that impact parents’ mental health trajectories following fetal/infant illness. Here at Children’s National, she serves as the training director of the perinatal mental health postdoctoral fellowship, and also supports program development initiatives related to parent and caregiver wellbeing across hospital teams.

Prior to joining Children’s National, Dr. Bartolini earned her PsyD from Widener University’s Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology and completed her postdoctoral fellowship through the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She subsequently worked as a staff psychologist at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, where she developed particular expertise in treating children, parents and families facing serious medical illnesses. Dr. Bartolini is licensed as a clinical psychologist in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia.
