About the Provider

Ellie Smith-Khuri, MD, FAAP, has been a primary care pediatrician at Children’s National Pediatricians & Associates (CNPA) since 2008. Dr. Smith-Khuri first came to Washington, D.C., over 25 years ago after earning her medical degree from Columbia University in New York City.

She began her career at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), where she was awarded a post-doctoral research fellowship in the Division of Epidemiology, Statistics, and Prevention Research at the Institute of Child Health. Her work focused on youth risk behaviors, injury prevention and environmental influences on child health.

Following her research fellowship, Dr. Smith-Khuri completed her pediatric residency at Children’s National Hospital and remained there as an Emergency Department physician, where she developed a strong foundation in urgent care. In 2008, she transitioned to CNPA as a primary care pediatrician and clinical instructor, where she could blend her dedication to primary care medicine with her research background, urgent care expertise and commitment to education. She values the opportunity to build long-term, meaningful relationships with her patients and their families, drawing daily on her diverse training experiences.

Dr. Smith-Khuri lives in Washington, D.C.. She enjoys the city’s vibrant art museums and spending time outdoors with her family (particularly when her adult children are available!), exploring the capital’s unique blend of history, architecture and natural beauty.
