About the Provider
Brieanne (Brie) Kohrt, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in working with Spanish-speaking children and families. Dr. Kohrt joined the Developing Brain Institute (DBI) in August 2023. She completed her doctorate in clinical psychology at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., her predoctoral internship in child clinical psychology at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, and her postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology with Emory University and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
Dr. Kohrt’s research focuses on mental health capacity-building for low-resource settings in Latin America, with a focus on the use of task-sharing models to address gaps in perinatal and maternal mental health. Task sharing refers to a strategy of expanding access to mental health services by involving non-specialist providers or community members (such as nurses, teachers or volunteers) in the delivery of basic mental healthcare. She is currently engaged in two projects in Guatemala that involve training and supervising community health workers in the detection and management of perinatal mental health disorders.
Clinically, Dr. Kohrt has expertise in perinatal mental health, treating adolescents and adults with complex trauma and crisis behaviors and in bilingual psychological assessment. She is also director of PASEO Salud Mental, a non-profit whose mission is to increase access to mental health services for Spanish speakers in the U.S., and to provide capacity building for psychologists and allied professionals in Northern Peru.
