About the Provider

Alexandra Espinel, MD, MEd, FACS, FAAP, is a fellowship-trained pediatric otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat specialist) at Children’s National Hospital and associate professor of surgery and pediatrics at the George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She is board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery and sub certified in Complex Pediatric Otolaryngology. 

Dr. Espinel specializes in the management of head and neck masses and salivary gland disorders. She is a recognized leader in the treatment of oromotor and swallowing dysfunction. Her advanced procedures include Botox (botulinum toxin type A) injections of the salivary glands, submandibular gland excision, parotid duct ligation and parotidectomy. She also performs tonsillectomy via the advanced intracapsular approach. She provides advanced pediatric ENT care at Children’s National as well as general ENT services at affiliated ambulatory sites.  Dr. Espinel particularly enjoys partnering with parents and consulting providers for individualized, patient-centered care. 

Dr. Espinel received her medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine (2010). She completed residency in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at George Washington University Hospital (2010-2015), followed by a fellowship in Complex Pediatric Otolaryngology at Children's National/George Washington University (2015-2016). 

Dr. Espinel is the director of the ACGME-accredited fellowship in Complex Pediatric Otolaryngology at Children’s National. Established in 1984, the fellowship is widely regarded as one of the top programs in the country, known for its high clinical volume and case complexity.  She earned a Master’s Degree in education from the George Washington University in 2025.
